Basement Ideas

Basements are one of these rooms in the house that can, if you wish, be converted into a room you might actually enjoying a bit of time in. Basements are fantastic places for you to hang out with your mates, shooting some billiards, playing table tennis or watching your home cinema. There really isn’t anything better than hanging out now and again. If you’re the sort of person who works out a lot you should always find ways to relax. Otherwise you can easily find yourself getting stressed over work and maybe even having a nervous breakdown. This isn’t something you will want to happen to you and having a great basement allows you to chill out.

We all know how important exercising is but often there is nowhere near enough exercising done. Why would you want to joint the gym if you can have your home gym. People often feel embarrassed about how they let themselves get out of shape. It’s no wonder with the lives we live today. We drive around in cars, sit behind a desk in the office and watch TV in the evenings. However if you can spare the time for a little exercising now and again then it’s very much worth it. Being able to exercise in the privacy in your own home is worth a lot to many people who want to get fit.

However there might be some things you should consider if you actually do bit the bullet and get your basement converted into a home gym. There are many different basement finishing ideas. Obviosly you’ll want to buy some items of gyme equipment. There are many to choose from such as elliptical trainers, weight lifts, rowing machines and dumb bells. However when it comes to floorin gyou need to be careful because basements unfortunately sometimes have a damp problems. This means that you need to only buy hard flooring. However with gyms it’s often advised that rubber flooring makes a great basement gym floor. A rubber floor won’t absorb moisture plus it also has an element of insulation and softness. Oh, and rubber flooring is about as cheap a floor you’re going to be able to find and comes in a great selection of colors. Rubber floors are very hardwearing so don’t worry about ending up with lots of holes all over your gym floor.

Unfortunately, all too often basements have no windows whatsoever. This is probably one of the major reasons people don’t even bother to finish their basement. They see basements as being dark and gloomy places that they wouldn’t want to spend more than five minutes in. However this is no reason at all to avoid finishing your basement. If you have the know-how, finishing a basement can be very rewarding. There are some problems you may discover if you aren’t careful though. Damp as you may or may not know basements can be but there are ways that you can correct this.

Make sure that your plumbing is sound. You don’t want pipes with leaks because the water that leaks from these pipes will work its way into your walls and floors. This is cause a lot of problems for you and if you don’t know what the problem is. Damp often occurs in basements causing very serious health problems to your home and your family because of the mold and mildew. It is much better to prevent this happening than to have to try and rectify the problem after it occurs. Some people will even use a dehumidifier to remove excess moisture from the air. This is all very well but if there are reasons for the damp then the dehumidifier will only help witht the symptoms and not the cause.
